October 2011 Araldite ® Rapid Page 2 of 3 Huntsman Advanced Materials Application of adhesive The resin/hardener mix is applied directly or with a spatula to the pretreated and dry joint surfaces. A layer of adhesive 0.05 to 0.10 mm thick will normally impart the greatest lap shear strength to. Araldite adhesive sets by the interaction of a resin with a hardener. Heat is not necessary although warming will reduce the curing time and improve the strength of the bond. After curing, the joint is claimed to be impervious to boiling water and all common organic solvents. DESCRIPTION ARALDITE AW 106 Resin/Hardener HV 953U epoxy adhesive is a multi- purpose, viscous material that is suitable for bonding a variety of materials, including metal, ceramic, and wood. The electrically insulating adhesive is easy to apply either manually by spatula and stiff brush or mechanically with meter/mix and coating equipment. I have since used different brands but Araldite is still my favourite. I used it to fix my ATH-M50X hinge that broke, within 24 hours it was a solid unbreakable bond. I'm not sure what else to say other than the basics so here you go: You get two tubes (the resin and the hardener) and a little plastic mixing stick. Araldite joints are water proof, heat proof, stress proof, and resistant to most chemicals. Non-corrosive and non-toxic. Package Contains Araldite AW 106 Standard Epoxy Adhesive ( Resin 1kg + Hardener 800g ) 1.8kg x 1 Piece This pack contains two tubes: Features: Worlds Strongest Bond Versatile No Shrinking after curing Prevents sagging Uses: ARALDITE Standard bonds anything to anything like.

WHY DOESN'T MY GLUE WORK?

The most common reasons are either:

You have chosen the wrong product for the materials that you want to stick. Check out the details on your pack or look at the product selector on this website.

Or

You may not have prepared or cleaned the surfaces thoroughly enough. Look on the back of your pack for advice. TOP

I HAVE STUCK MY FINGERS WITH SUPERGLUE - WHAT CAN I DO?

Don't panic! Most accidental skin bonds can be freed using warm soapy water and some patience. If fingers are stuck it can help if you use a pencil to help prise them apart. TOP

All glues have a period over which the 'bond strength' increases to its maximum - even super or instant glues. Check your pack for details. TOP

HOW STRONG IS GLUE?

TO BE SAFE I USED EVEN MORE GLUE THAN WAS RECOMMENDED BUT IT STILL DIDN'T WORK. WHY NOT?

Actually too much glue doesn't help and doesn't usually produce a neat finish. Also check whether you should be applying to one surface or both. Always follow the product instructions on your Araldite® pack. TOP

I'M WORRIED ABOUT THE EFFECTS OF ACCIDENTALLY INHALING FUMES. SHOULD I BE?

All Araldite® adhesives are safe when handled according to Huntsman's guidelines. It's always best to work in a well-ventilated area but there's no danger from fumes.

ARE GLUES SAFE FOR MY CHILDREN TO USE?

Instant or rapid bond glues are best used under supervision for younger children but all Araldite® glues are safe when handled according to Huntsman's guidelines. There are glues recommended for art and craft materials like paper, cardboard and fabrics. Check out the product selector on this website. TOP

WILL THE ADHESIVE CURE AT LOW TEMPERATURE ?
Araldite adhesives are not recommended to be used at temperatures below 10°C. The curing times given on the packs are for a temperature of 23°C, if the temperature is lower, the cure will take longer.TOP

ARE THERE ANY ADHESIVE SUITABLE TO BOND PP, PE OR PTFE ?
No, these types of plastics cannot be bonded.

HOW DO I REMOVE CURED RESIDUES OF ARALDITE ?
For Araldite Super Glue: residues can be removed using warm water and soap water.
For Araldite Epoxy adhesives:
Cured residue or exuded adhesive may be destroyed by immersion in commercial paint strippers, such as Nitromors or Multistrip, and these are available from most retail paint suppliers. Joints may be broken by soaking in these chemicals for periods up to 24 hours depending on the joint width and thickness. Details for use and safe handling of paint strippers should be obtained from the manufacturers.
NOTE : Care should be taken in using the chemicals given above since they may be hazardous to handle or inflammable, and may also attack the substrate.TOP

THE SURFACE OF THE CURED EPOXY ADHESIVE REMAINS STICKY, IS IT FULLY CURED ?
If the adhesive remains sticky on the surface left open to air, it does not necessarily means that the adhesive is not fully cured. Under certain conditions, the hardener can react with carbon dioxide in the air and leave a sticky layer on the surface of the cured adhesive. Normally this layer can be easily removed with a wet cloth.TOP

THE EPOXY ADHESIVE DOES NOT CURE
Problems with our DIY epoxy adhesives are often caused by a wrong mix ratio between the resin and the hardener, if you use tubes, the quantity of resin and hardener is sometimes difficult to evaluate. If you use syringes, we recommend to extract the small amount of air which may be present in the syringe before extruding the product as shown below:
