You’ve likely been gnawing the multi-touch off your Magic Mouse in anticipation of it, but no longer. Autodesk Inventor Fusion is now available for the Mac. You can download it from Autodesk Labs immediately and you don’t even need Autodesk Inventor installed to run it. If you’ve used Autodesk Inventor Fusion on Windows, you’ll notice some differences. And, if you’ve used the Autodesk 123D App, you’ll notice some similarities.
Autodesk Inventor Fusion for Mac
Just found out 123d design was discontinued and is no longer available in the app store. I've been doing all my design for the last 2 years in 123d. Any recommendations on a similar workflow type program? Download Autodesk 123D Design - This is a powerful software tool that allows any type of user, no matter how unexperienced, to create 3D models with a lot of ease and precision.
Now, I’m not a Mac fiend by any means, so I won’t be installing this right away. Loren Welch has the best Inventor Fusion write-up I’ve seen with plenty of screen shots and a video to satiate your curiosity.
Solids, Surfaces, Visualization, Parts and Assemblies…and, do you see the 360 integration? In case you missed it ‘Insert from Autodesk 360’ was on the Assemble menu. This is good stuff here folks…good stuff indeed. And here is some more Autodesk 360 you will see in IFM.
IFM is Inventor Fusion for Mac. Yes, unlike the Windows version of Inventor Fusion 2013, IFM hooks you into the new Autodesk 360 backbone. Very nice. However, you don’t have as many file import options. In fact, you’re pretty much at the bare minimum of import options with Inventor, AutoCAD, SAT and STEP. As you look at Inventor Fusion for Mac, you’ll notice it actually looks more like the 123D App interface than the Inventor Fusion (Windows) interface. Now, that’s not a bad thing, as the 123D interface is slick, easy to navigate and has tons of nice features for a free app. It does lacks the features you find in the original Inventor Fusion for Windows (and tends to lag on larger files), but even still, 123D is a delight to use.
Here’s an image of IFM, ganked from Loren’s post:
Also ganked, a video of IFM:
It’s great. When Autodesk users ask to have software available on the Mac, they’re listened to. But if you’re a PTC Pro/E user, Siemens Solid Edge user or a Dassault SolidWorks or CATIA user… forget about it, right? Oh wait, even Autodesk hasn’t put that same fervor for pleasing it’s users into the Inventor or Revit products… yet.
You can give Inventor Fusion on the Mac a try via Autodesk Labs and I suggest you do whether you’re on a PC or a Mac. You can keep up to speed with what’s happening with Inventor Fusion as well on the Facebook Inventor Fusion page.

Big changes in this release:
- Redesigned the entire Print workflow. See http://help.autodesk.com/view/MSHMXR/2019/ENU/ for details. We have eliminated 3rd party printing services that were not working properly and causing crashes. You can now easily add custom printers and use your printer software to do the actual print, or you can export your model as STL and send it to the 3rd party printing services.
- Implemented Customer Error Report (CER) functionality. A report can now be sent to Autodesk when Meshmixer crashes, which will allow us to debug your issues in a more meaningful way. Please add your comments about how the crash happened.
